Name of a Shadow - Ann Maxwell, Elizabeth Lowell I've read 5 books by Ann Maxwell. This is the fourth in a row to feature impending planetary destruction. I subtracted a star for this.
The Venetian's Wife: A Strangely Sensual Tale of a Renaissance Explorer, a Computer, and a Metamorphosis - Nick Bantock This book is as about as sensual as an insurance policy. However it does contain some interesting pictures.
Interstellar Pig (Interstellar Pig #1) - William Sleator I first heard of this book as a child in 1986 or 1987. I liked the title and wanted to read it. I forgot about Interstellar Pig for 25+ years until it was recommended by Goodreads. I enjoyed it but wish I had read it at a younger age.
A Very Southern Christmas: Holiday Stories from the South's Best Writers - Richard Ford, Fred Chappell, Tim Gautreaux, Mary Ward Brown, Lee Smith, Robert Olen Butler, Charline R. McCord, Tim McLaurin, Julia Ridley Smith, Valerie Sayers, Donna Tartt I read only the Donna Tartt story.
In the Garden of Poisonous Flowers - Caitlín R. Kiernan This is a prequel to [b:Threshold|81062|Threshold|Caitlín R. Kiernan|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347502991s/81062.jpg|929484]. You will want to read that first.
Shadow of the Knife - Jane Fletcher 2.5 stars, the love interest is a real lowlife
Yocandra in the Paradise of NADA - Zoé Valdés, Sabina Cienfuegos 2.5 stars, A Day in the Life of a Cuban woman.
A House in the Country - José Donoso I enjoyed the first half of the book but felt betrayed by the deus ex machina that the authors uses at the start of part II. A year passes for the children but only a day for the adults.
Pit of Despair - Simon R. Green A cute novella with the usual Simon R. Green humor.
Wayward Icelanders: Punishment, Boundary Maintenance, And The - Helgi Gunnlaugsson, John Galliher, Helgi A dry book on crime in Iceland. The conclusions are fairly dated.
The Singer Enigma - Ann Maxwell 2.5 stars, the ending was a bit flaky.
The Dark Domain (Dedalus European Classics) - Stefan Grabinski I'm surprised Mieville recommended this book, most of the stories are quite predictable.
Tales from the Woeful Platypus - Caitlín R. Kiernan, Vince Locke This contains the following stories:Liked:Forests of the NightDaughter of Man, Mother of Wyrmpas-en-arriere - "I'm sitting, and she's standing there above me, telling me that she was born with a tail, and I'm thinking, well, this is what happens when you meet a girl on the internet."OK:Untitled 17PonyUntitled 20Still LifeThe Garden of Living Flowers
Up the Organization: How to Stop the Corporation from Stifling People and Strangling Profits - Robert Townsend This book has some terrible ideas.
Une semaine de bonté - Max Ernst, Werner Spies, Jürgen Pech I received a foreign language version of this book from interlibrary loan. I don't read German so the first 80 pages were wasted on me. The pictures were interesting to look at, though.
Blood and Guts in High School - Kathy Acker A truly awful book - 1 part [b:The Atrocity Exhibition|70240|The Atrocity Exhibition|J.G. Ballard|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328698296s/70240.jpg|68057], 1 part concrete poetry, 1 part Farsi exercise book, 3 parts crystal meth, and 7 parts blotter acid.
